Terms and conditions Guzman Global Ideas Competition: Colour and Interior Architecture
Participants
Entry is open to students registered on the Graphic and Chromatic Design module of the ETSA UPV Qualifying Master’s Degree in Architecture during the academic year of 2016-2017 , or indeed those students who have taken the module in previous academic years .
Aims
The aim of the competition is the development of a proposal for chromatic solutions for the interiors of the Guzman Global installations on the Vera de Quart industrial estate (Carrer dels Traginers, 9, 46014, Valencia).
The solutions must be a response to the functional, compositional, aesthetic, cultural and all other factors which come together in the design of interior spaces, with the commercial activity carried out by Guzman Global as its point of departure, and with particular attention to chromatic qualities.
Contents of the architectural proposals
The proposals presented will contain the technical information necessary for their execution. The candidates will be entirely free in the conception of their proposals as regards the use of materials; however, the use of products manufactured from raw materials distributed by Guzman Global will be especially valued. With this in mind, the use of some of the following materials distributed by companies connected to Guzman Global is suggested: rubber, coloured vinyl, methacrylate, ceramic, vinyl type adhesive plastic films or similar, etc.
The materials used in the proposal will be an expression of the wide variety of raw materials distributed by Guzman Global, and also of the company’s commitment to innovation.
Submission of proposals proposals
Candidates must express their wish to take part in the competition via e-mail to juanserra@ega.upv.es before the 17/10/2016. Complete personal details must be provided, along with proof of registration on the Graphic and Chromatic Design module of the ETSA UPV Qualifying Master’s Degree in Architecture, or of having taken the module in previous years: name, surname, address of residence including postcode, ID number, nationality and contact telephone number. Entry will be confirmed as soon as possible via e-mail.
Entrants must present the following documents before the established deadline:
- 4 Panels mounted on a hard base, format DIN A2 containing the drawings, sketches, plans , photographs, texts, etc., which explain the solution you wish to carry out. The panel must , at a minimum, contain a justification of the proposed solution, a visualisation of the expected results, and a layout showing materials and colours in a standard colour notation system.
- Also presented along with the panels will be a technical guide in DIN A4 format , which will include a detailed explanation of the material execution of the proposal, and also any complimentary documentation which the candidate considers to be relevant in order to suitably explain the proposal.
- A scale model showing the proposed solution. This could be a physical or virtual model, which may be later viewed using available immersive reality technology in Lab Human (Cave, Oculus…)
- An oral presentation of the proposal with a duration of approximately 10 minutes with the support of projected images will also be required.
- Candidates will provide a CD containing the digital files in pdf, format of both the panels presented and the slide presentation and also the technical guide. The images will be independently included in.jpg mode. The minimum resolution of any graphic material will be 300 pp. Other admitted file formats for complimentary material in conjunction with the previous stipulations are: .dwg, .doc, .ppt, etc.
The work will be clearly identified with complete details of the authors: name, surnames, address of residence including postcode, ID number, nationality and contact telephone number.
The organisation will not be held responsible for any damage loss, etc., of the presented material, any damages due to any cause that the material may suffer for the duration of the time it remains in the UPV being the responsibility of the author.
Available documentation
From the 17/10/2016, the participants will have available to them graphic documentation of the space for the proposed solution in digital format , which they should apply for in writing to juanserra@ega.upv.es
In the same way, participants may visit the spaces which are the object of their solutions, on the indicated dates.
Selection criteria
The jury brought together to select the winning proposal, will take the following criteria into account:
- Assessment of the suitability and creativity of the proposal.
- Assessment of its aesthetic and functional quality.
- Assessment of the technical suitability and viability of its execution.
- Assessment of the adjustment of the proposal to the economic cost supposed by its possible execution.
- Assessment of the quality of the presentation of the proposal.
Composition of the jury
The jury will be comprised of the following members:
-The general director of Guzman Global, or a delegate thereof
-The corporate director of Guzman Global, or a delegate thereof
-A member of staff of Guzman Global
-A prestigious architect
-A member of “UPV Colour Research Group”
-The lecturer in charge of the “Graphic and Chromatic Design” module, or a delegate thereof.
Rules
- The proposal will be entered by an individual or by a team of two people. Each participant may only take part in a maximum of two teams.
- The same project may not be put forward for any other competition of similar characteristics.
- The prize will be presented following the formal presentation and defence of the project for the jury in a public meeting on the dates stipulated in these terms and conditions. Non-attendance by the candidates of the defence will imply relinquishment of their participation in the competition.
- Competition winners will be obliged to collaborate in the direction and supervision of the execution of their chromatic proposal if required.
- The jury may remove from the competition any proposals which do not comply with the requirements stipulated in these terms and conditions.
- The prize may be declared as annulled if, in the opinion of the jury, none of the entries satisfy the necessary requirements.
- The work awarded the prize will be the property of Guzman Global, who will hold all rights over the same and may carry out the proposal at their convenience.
- Guzman Global accepts no obligation to carry out the works of the winning proposal.
Prize
A 1st prize is established consisting of a MacBook Pro laptop computer with a 13 inch Retina screen 2,9 GHz Processor, 512 GB storage memory or similar valued at 1.999€* and a 2nd prize consisting of a 12.9“ 128GB iPad Pro or similar valued at 1.009€*
Prize giving
The prizes will be given at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in a public event , attended by the jury.
Schedule
10/10/2016: Visit by candidates to the installations of Guzman Global, which will be the object of the chromatic solutions
17/10/2016: Last day for the submission of written notification via e-mail of participation in the competition under the previously stipulated conditions.
26/01/2017: Delivery of documentation of each proposal and public defence thereof before the members of the jury. Location: Sala de proyecciones de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura. Time: 12:00h. At the end of the event the jury will make their decision public.
If for different possible motives changes were made to the dates and locations mentioned above, for reasons beyond the control of the members of the tribunal, these changes will be communicated vía e-mail to the e-mail address of the participants in no less than 24 hours before the event.
Notes
Guzman Global and the teachers of the Qualifying Master’s Degree in Architecture reserve the right to use the names of the participants and images of their proposals, whatever the medium, for their informative, educational or research activity. The publishing of any images or documentation connected to the competition by the competitors or the entities involved must be accompanied by the following text: “This proposal was developed by (full name of the authors) in the Graphic and Chromatic Design module of the University Master’s Degree in Architecture at the la UPV for the Guzman Global Prize: Colour and Interior Architecture.“
